Real Estate, etc... by Eric Michael: Blogging really works!

Blogging really works!

Blogging really works!

I started blogging on December 1, 2010.

Some time in early November, I Googled my name, Eric Michael, just to see where it shows up.

Google

I showed up on the bottom of the 5th page or the top of the 6th, behind some musician and a guy with the same name that sells shoes.

So, like I said, I started blogging. Nothing big, just a couple of regular blogs and a bunch of diary-type blogs of what I'm doing daily for my Real Estate business.

Well, I was a little surprised at the results. I was in the middle of the 3rd page!

Amazing!

Just imagine where I'd be if I started blogging a couple years ago. A year ago. Even one month earlier.

If you're sitting on the fence (like I did for a LONG time), take my advice...

Start blogging! Just type whatever you want. It's gonna take a little time before you find your online "voice". I know I still haven't found mine, but I'm seeing results. And that's what counts.

Let me know if you have any advice, or would like to talk to me if you're thinking about getting started. I'm certainly not a Blogging Genius or anything, but I can show you how to get started.

I'm looking forward to moving up in the search engines, page by page.

In fact, I can't wait to rank higher than a guy who sells shoes.

All in due time...

Have a great day,

Eric...

Craig, you're right. Active is the key word.

Eric ~ being that I have an unusual name, I have always been able to be found on the first page.  But now with blogging, the content to which I am connected to is more in my control.  Keep it up!!

I have a pretty common name and I did the same thing you did, that was in 2006. I didn't have the same results you did, you were even better off, I was on page 64 when I stopped looking for my name and website. Within a month of blogging, I was starting to see the results also, I'm happy to say now I'm where I want to be and I can't wait to read your post when you are #1.

I started blogging recently and I am having a hard time "finding my voice" as you say. I want to appear witty, yet come off as a professional. I eventually want to write multiple blogs for my multiple websites but am first starting with my niche site. What sort of things did you write about when you began? So far I have written about restaurants and events in the area.

Posted by Adam Benedict almost 8 years ago

Adam, I'm a new guy at blogging myself! All of the blogs that I've written here are in the right hand column in the folders. You have the same goals as me, niches and multiple blogs. I know I still don't have "my voice", but I've been told more than a few times that people like my writing style. Email me if you want to talk about it.

I am a prime example just as you are Eric.  One day you decide to start blogging and pretty soon you think you have always been blogging.  You can't remember the last time you forgot to at least make a few comments.  Go get 'em!

Eric - I still get hits off blog posts I wrote several years ago, so the regular practice of blogging is going to serve you well for a long time. Thanks for giving us your story of climbing the page ranks...I happen to be named the same as a famous baseball player. I don't think I'll catch him on Google, but I rank for the real estate terms I care about.

Posted by Dave Roberts (Healdsburg Sotheby's International Realty) over 7 years ago

Dave, and as long as you're ranking for the terms you want, it's great!

Hey, Eric – I left a surprise for you in my blog post this morning. Let me know when you find it. What? You thought I was going to tell you what and where it is. Ha! This comment is a clue, though!

Russel, thanks for doing that! What a great idea!

Just stick with it. Anything, almost anything, done consistently will eventually pay off. Unless, of course, it is just talking to your own colleagues around the water cooler.

Love your post Eric... I found you through Russel  Ray... he is our blogging Angel!  Best of luck and keep on blogging!  Kathy

I also found your post through Russel, I love re-blogged posts, so many good ones elude me otherwise.

Blogging as a daily habit is the best way to make sure your posts and name boogies up in the search engines.

Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement Eric.  For those of us just getting started, blogging takes up a lot of time.  So it's always good to know that the hard work will pay off .... eventually.

Hi Eric, great words of wisdom and I wish I had started blogging a lot sooner as well.  At least we are blogging now.  Have a great evening.

The water's fine. Glad you jumped in with both feet. If you're a creature of habit and you keep this one up, it will pay off.

I am right there with you Eric. I am both refining and seeking my voice. I too search my name every now and then and with a name like Doug Anderson it is a bit difficult to move up...so I will continue my online endeavors to get better.

of course blogging works! I see it all the time in many ways, at dinner recently a real estate friend told me she giggled one day when another attorney mentioned she liked wine.  My attorney friend said how did you know that and he told her he googled her name and found her on my blog via Active Rain!

Blogging works for a lot of things and AR is such a great blogging platform

Hi Eric, I joined the 31 Days of May blooging contest and wrote at least one blog every day in May. I hit my stride and found it fairly easy to come up with blog topics. Now, I am not as consistent as I was in May. I need to refocus and get back to it.

Posted by Donna Malone, Homes and Property for Sale Nova Scotia (Waterfront, Luxury, Family, Affordable, Cottage, Deals) over 7 years ago

Suzanne, consistency is the key, for sure.

Kathy, thanks. Russel is a great guy.

Mona, re-blogs are great to get to know people.

Lisa, it really does pay off. Doesn't seem like it in the beginning, but it will.

Judith, everyone wishes they started earlier. Me included.

Karen, I'm a creature of procrastination. I didn't think I'd get this far and I'm only warming up!

Doug, just keep it going, buddy.

Marilyn, I know it works, I just need to find the best ways to utilize it.

Mary, if it wasn't for AR I wouldn't have started blogging at all. Maybe in the future? Who knows.

Donna, write a list of monthy things that you could write about and make templates for them. That's what I'm working on.
