Little Caesars Hot-n-Ripoff pizza

Little Caesars Hot-n-Ripoff pizza

There's a Little Caesars pizza shop less than a mile from my real estate office, Remerica Integrity, in Northville, MI, that I've been buying pizzas at for about 4 years now. Maybe 3 years ago, I asked them if I could swap out the pepperoni for another single item. They said yes. That made me very happy because pepperoni is probably my most disliked topping on a pizza, besides anchovies of course.

Hot-n-Ready

Fast forward to tonight.

I called ahead to order a ham pizza. He said it'll be ready in about 10-15 minutes. No mention of an extra charge.

Fifteen minutes later I walk into the store and he says it's $6.36. I said the Hot-n-Ready's are only $5. Why's it so expensive?
His answer? If you change the topping, it's $1 more.

What?

My thinking is that if there's going to be an "additional" charge, the topping I want should be "in addition to" the one that already comes on it!
Besides, paying extra for a topping exchange, you should at least get a decent amount of whatever topping is supposed to be on the pizza.
Here's a picture of the ham pizza I got today...

Ham Pizza

That's an unacceptable amount of ham for a pizza topping. I wish I'd have looked at the pizza before I paid for it. I would've walked out.

Between buying pizzas for dinner (because I work late a lot), I also buy them as "thank you's" for the afternoon secretaries, sometimes the cleaning lady, and some of the other agents that I pal around with in the office.
I buy 2,3 sometimes 4 pizzas from this place every week. This amount doesn't even take into consideration any family gatherings or parties that we have at our house that my wife will go and get pizzas for. That's 100-200 pizzas a year!

I will not pay extra for a 1 item pizza. To me, it doesn't make sense.

I hope this was worth the extra $1 you got outta me tonight.

You crack me up, Eric. Who doesn't love pizza? They could have at lease spread out the ham.

Eric,

Well now...they're about 5 days away from opening a Little Ceasers here in Crofton. Pepperoni it is for me.

Rich, if that's what you like, it's all good. I'm not knocking EVERY Little Caesars, just the one I've been patronizing for years. There are a couple more locally, albeit farther away, that I'm going to call to see if they're worth buying from.

Write to the Little Caesars head quarters and I'll make bets you will not only get a refund, but you will also get some free pizzas. It does sound like this manager really messed up on this one, because I do agree, the $1 extra is for an extra topping, not an exchange!

Todd, that's a good idea.

Well, they certainly cheesed you on the topping. At least cover the whole pizza. And I also agree its ridiculous to pay the additional $1 for 1 topping when you are just substituting it. My guess is that they get a great discount on the amount of pepperoni that they buy. Of course... an argument can be made that they don't normally charge for the pepperoni because the Cheese Only Hot-n-Ready pizza is the same price. So, perhaps the Pep is free and when you substitute it out, they have to then charge you for the topping.

hmm... makes you wonder. Perhaps I'll have to investigate this further.

My best experiences with Little Caesars have been since I learned that the box tastes at least as good as their pizzas, maybe better.  In a mythical blind taste test, nine of ten participants can't identify which is what.

John, let me know if you find out anything.

Mike, I think everyone can agree that it's not the "best" pizza around, but it's cheap and fast. That's what I used to like about it.

hello. i work at this exact store. the $5 pepperoni pizza is the same price as a plain cheese pizza. you're getting a discount on that pepperoni. any topping other than that is a $6 pizza. they do not advertize ALL PIZZAS being $5, they advertize a pepperoni or a cheese pizza at $5.

the amount of ham is definitely unnacceptable, i agree. but the price is not. don't let 1 pizza ruin your little caesars experience. ;p

thanks.

Hello, "employee." I wish you'd have said your name, because I still come in every now and then and I'd say hi. But only when I'm in the mood for pepperoni. If I want anything other than that, I go someplace else.

As for getting a "discount" for the pepperoni, I'll disagree. I think that that cheese only pizza is priced too high. So anyone getting just cheese is getting ripped off, because they don't get a discount for saving you the cost of pepperoni.

But that's just semantics.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I don't understand why you, among others, are saying Little Caesars pizza is overpriced. It is the CHEAPEST pizza you can purchase apart from grocery stores. It confuses me. It is an extra Dollar for a different topping..

A medium pizza a dominos is $6. A large from Pizza hut is $10.

You're getting a Large for $6. hm. Should I continue?

Anyway, thanks for continuing to stop by. Much appreciated!

Apparently, in Orlando, you can exchange the pepperoni for free. So, any one topping for $5. According to my father in law. Here in Ohio, its pepperoni or cheese only. $1.50 to add or exchange a topping.
