Real Estate, etc... by Eric Michael: I'm Gonna Miss You, Gramps.

I'm Gonna Miss You, Gramps.

I'm Gonna Miss You, Gramps.

I missed the call last night. I had just went to sleep when my brother tried to call me.

I called him back this morning.

My grandfather passed away last night.

Gramps

He lived a long life. 96 years to be exact.

The last few years probably weren't the best, but he was strong, healthy and vibrant until then.

I'm traveling to Tennessee Sunday morning, where he was living with my brother, then Cleveland Tuesday and Wednesday. That's where he'll be buried.

I'm glad I got to spend a lot of time with him over the years. The stories he told me will never be forgotten.

Grandpas hold a very special place in our hearts.. I am sorry for your heartbreak. 96 ..wow, he must have really been able to tell great stories and I am sure he know how loved he was... as for the note on the photo I had to smile, two bowls of ice cream-- just like my grandpa!!! Is that a wad of chewing tobacco on the table as well...if so I am going to laugh out loud- my grandpa always had a big chew of RedMan. !!

Keep the memories alive, share his stories and he'll be listening in to see that you tell them correctly!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandpa.  I lost both of mine long ago.  One when I was 3, and I don't remember him.  Only what I hear and that he loved me.  I lost my other grandfather on the day I graduated high school.  Hoping that the service for your grandpa brings back many happy memories for you and your siblings to share.

Michele, yes. That's chewing tobacco on the table. He's incredible, isn't he?

Susan, thank you. It's not gonna be fun, but it will bring everything back.

Now I love your Gramps too!! I thought that was a wad.. I was right! I am guessing hes an old southern boy that worked his tail off for his family and loved completely with a soft heart and firm hand. Am I close ?

Michele, not bad. He worked 2 jobs most of his life, had a very firm hand but not Southern. He came over from the Ukrain (Russia at the time) as a child. Grew up in Cleveland and moved to Detroit for work a long time ago.

I could tell from the picture he had the look of a man that was strong and hard working in his prime.

when we buried my grandpa I put his last pouch of tobacco in his casket and framed the box, it sits on my office desk..Red Man.  Travel safe, and again, sorry for your loss. You hit heart strings with me, as I know how special a relationship with grandpa can be.

Michele, my grandma (years ago) told me that she watched him pick a telephone pole up completely off the ground! He looks small and frail in this pic, but he was a beast back in the day.

Cindy, thanks. It's gonna be tough.

Thinking about you.  Be safe while you travel and remember to share those Grandpa stories you remember with your girls.

It's a tough day when you lose a grandfather, I remember both of mine like they are still here, and they both passed away many years ago. They both lived in much harsher times then we can ever imagine. But I never heard a complaint from either one of them.

THis is not the time, but the next time you pass through Tennessee, give me a call.

Tammy, I will. Call me tomorrow while I'm driving.

Larry, thanks. I really appreciate it. I hope to do more traveling (and golfing) next year. Going to #retso in the Spring?

I keep photos of my family as screensavers so during the work day they are just a glance away. I have lots of my Grandparents.

Eric. I am so sorry for the loss of your 'gramps'. I hope you keep all your good memories of him forever. That is how we live on.

Eric, I'm from the Detroit area too and the photo of your Gramps for some reason reminds me of Detroit.  I guess because my grandfather was big in VFW so we went there a lot and in my child's eye most of the men looked like your grandfather.  I'm sincerely sorry for your loss but very happy for you that you got to keep him in your life for far longer than most adults.

Cheryl, that's a great idea!

Valerie, thanks. I have a lot of them.

Mona, thanks. He's a retired autoworker, so you're right about him being the "face" of Detroit.
